We were founded in 2023 to address the persistent and disproportionate health challenges facing women and girls in the post-conflict Acholi sub-region of Northern Uganda.
Our mission is to close the gaps left behind by two decades of insurgency. We believe that when women are empowered to lead, innovate, and deliver high-quality care, the entire community thrives.

Official Launch of AWIHF, July 2026
Acholi Women in Health Foundation was officially launched at Gulu University Library Hall in a gathering that affirmed our long-term commitment to women- and girl-centered healthcare in Northern Uganda. Graced by Deputy IGG Dr. Patricia Acan Okiria, Commissioner for Non-Communicable Diseases with the Ministry of Health Oyoo Charles Akiya, and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, the launch marked a defining moment for AWIHF's community-rooted mission and the next chapter of our work.
Our Impact
We have delivered structured phases of programming across the Acholi sub-region, establishing a strong evidence base and demonstrating high-volume, community-centred health delivery.
Across four days in Patiko, free medical consultations, vision screenings, and maternal care reached families in the most underserved rural Acholi communities.
Nursing and medical students connected with experienced clinical mentors through our national mentorship pipeline, building the next generation of women-led health leadership.
From community assessments in January to mental health support groups in December, this reflected a full year of structured, phased health delivery across the Acholi sub-region.
Maternal health, mental health, community health education, healthcare systems strengthening, and school and community outreach work together because women's health challenges do not exist in isolation.

2025 Impact Report
2025 was a defining year for Acholi Women in Health Foundation. We launched community-based SRHR research, reached more than 1,000 households through the Patiko Medical Outreach, and equipped emerging healthcare professionals across Uganda.

Acholi Women in Health Foundation officially launched on 11 July 2026 in Gulu, convening public leaders, health partners, and community stakeholders around a shared commitment to dignified, community-rooted care for women and girls.
Abwoch Medical Outreach Extends Essential Screening and Reproductive Health Services
AWIHF conducted a community medical outreach at Abwoch Health Center III, delivering consultations, reproductive health services, HIV screening and counseling, and cancer and sickle cell awareness services closer to the people who needed them.
Patiko Medical Outreach Reaches 1,000+ Households
Our high-volume, community-rooted medical camp in Patiko delivered free medical consultations, vision screenings, and maternal care to 1,000+ underserved households over four days.
